Cosmetic camouflage uses specially formulated, medical-grade makeup to conceal skin differences, including keloid and hypertrophic scars, pigmentation irregularities, redness and uneven skin tone.
These products are long-lasting, water-resistant and available in a wide range of skin tones. They stand up to swimming and sport, suit men, women and children, and can be used anywhere on the body.
Camouflage does not treat the scar
It offers an immediate, non-invasive way to change how a scar looks. It does not change the scar itself. It is often most useful on small flat scars, or to conceal the minor residual marking left after cryosurgery, radiosurgical excision or steroid injections.
The Irish Red Cross Skin Camouflage Service
This service is free of charge, though the Irish Red Cross welcomes donations to support it.
Trained volunteers select the best colour match for your natural skin tone, teach you how to apply the cream so it lasts and stays waterproof, and help you source it at the best price. Appointments are arranged in advance.
A referral from Dr Buckley or one of his nurses is needed to access the service for a skin condition. No referral is required for camouflaging a tattoo.
